A Classic Motorsport Chronograph
Monte-Carlo Rally
Bicompax dial with sunburst finish and hand-applied hour indices. Bezel with 60-minute countdown and recessed, black stop counters - a motorsport classic like from the sixties.
The history
Chronographs with panda dials made their first appearance in the 1960s and have been considered icons of the watch world ever since. Guinand, a pioneer among chronograph manufacturers, was one of the first to implement this striking design in his models. The special appeal of the panda dials lies in their excellent readability: the high-contrast subdials stand out clearly against the light background.
With the Monte-Carlo Bicompax, Guinand presents a modern interpretation of this classic design - implemented as a bicompax chronograph.
The Watch
The silver-plated dial with a fine sunburst finish and deep black, slightly recessed subdials embodies the classic look of a sports chronograph. The chronograph counters are elaborately finished with fine grooves and black galvanization - a process that requires the highest precision. Hand-applied hour indices and round markers filled with luminous material at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions give the dial a harmonious elegance. The 60-minute ratchet bezel made of hard-coated stainless steel with a countdown function and the internal tachometer scale underline the versatile functionality of the Monte-Carlo Rally.
The modern Series 40 case with integrated crown protection offers robustness and reliability, while the pushers and crown with a sophisticated sealing system ensure high suitability for everyday use. Inside is a refined automatic movement with a Glucydur balance wheel - an expression of technical perfection and craftsmanship precision. These features make the Monte-Carlo Rally a chronograph that combines classic aesthetics with contemporary functionality and is perfect for every occasion.
The Dial
The dial of the Monte-Carlo Rally is manufactured with the utmost care and attention to detail. The hand-applied hour bars and the indices covered with luminous material are precisely riveted to the back of the dial through the finest holes - a sign of masterful craftsmanship. A faceted date window harmoniously rounds off the design and emphasizes the high quality standards that characterize every Guinand watch.
The Movement
The construction of the SW510 is based on the VJ7750 which has been developed in the 70s of the last century and continuously improved. It is arguably the most robust power source for a mechanical chronograph. The SW510 allows the realization of chronographs with Bicompax- and Tricompax dial.
Guinand receives this watch movement produced in Switzerland in a finely finished version with a Glucydur balance. At Guinand, each of these movements is once again adjusted in 5 positions, before the final inspection of the watch concludes with a multi-day running test.
The Housing
For the Monte-Carlo Rally, we rely on our new pilot's watch case - classically proportioned and firmly anchored in the tradition of our pilot's chronographs.
Protected pushers and a screw-down crown with a triple sealing system and flank protection guarantee a pressure resistance of 20 bar. The anthracite-black hard-coated stainless steel bezel, which can be rotated in both directions and adjusted in precise minute increments, enables short-time measurements of up to 60 minutes without having to start the chronograph. The pushers, crown and case back are also equipped with a reliable FKM-R sealing system.
For optimal protection, we have provided the Monte-Carlo Rally with scratch-resistant sapphire glass on both sides. The dial side is refined with a slightly curved glass with an anti-reflective coating on the inside, while the back has a flat sapphire glass that allows a view of the movement.
The Bezel
A special highlight of this watch is the distinctive rotating bezel. As with all our chronographs, it is made of hard-coated stainless steel and clicks precisely in minute increments. The minute scale is designed as a countdown, with the numbers decreasing clockwise. This bezel was specially developed to remind you of the end of events that last up to 60 minutes.
An example: For a planned time period of 45 minutes, the bezel is set so that the corresponding minute marking (in this case 45) points to the current position of the minute hand. As soon as the minute hand reaches the triangle on the bezel, the time has elapsed. At the same time, the chronograph function can still be used independently, for example to measure intermediate times or lap times.
The housing technology
Protected pushers and a screwed crown with 3-way sealing system and side protection enable a reliable pressure resistance of 20 bar. KFM-R sealing system for crown, pusher and base. Pilot's bezel made of stainless steel, anthracite-black hard coated /DLC) and beared in the case on 3 encapsulated ball detent systems.
Size comparison
Based on the size values, it is not easy to decide whether the watch fits the wrist, or whether it is too big or too small. To make your decision easier, we have mounted the watch on three different wrist widths that correspond to the usual sizes.
How to determine the correct strap length?
Please note that the wrists shown can only give you an approximate impression of the watch on your wrist, as the shape of the wrist is different for everyone, even if they have the same circumference.
The Strap
Leatherstrap Rally
For this watch, we recommend our finely perforated Rally leather strap made in Germany with quick-change spring bars.
Black cowhide leather, with fine perforation. Available with a pin or folding clasp.
