HS108

We are producing the HS108 on the occasion of Helmut Sinn's birthday, which would have been 108 years old today, September 3, 2024. The model is limited to 50 copies.

Guinand HS108

The Original

Watches with dials completely coated with luminous pigments played an important role in Helmut Sinn's active creative phase at Guinand. In addition to the three-hand models C6340 and Serie31 with the Chronosport brand logo on the dial, two chronographs with such dials were also produced according to his ideas. Among watch lovers, such models are referred to as "Leuchtkeks".

The yellowish-cream color of the dial in daylight comes from the embedded luminescent pigments of type C3, Mr. Sinn's preferred luminescent material for his watches. In the dark, the dials glow completely green and give these watches a unique appearance. The original chronograph models were so-called left-hand watches, i.e. models with pushers and crown on the left side of the case. Even today, Guinand is one of the very few manufacturers that produces left-hand chronographs.

The Watch

In 2024, it is time to re-release a chronograph whose dial design exactly corresponds to the 20.50.05L model introduced more than two decades ago. In doing so, we take into account Helmut Sinn's idea of combining the best readability day and night and optimal wearing quality in a chronograph, using actuating elements on the side facing away from the back of the hand.

For watch enthusiasts who prefer a classic arrangement of the controls, we produce a corresponding version within the scope of the limitation so that you have the choice between the original left-hand version and a conventional arrangement of the controls.

We are producing this model on the occasion of Helmut Sinn's birthday, which would have been 108 years old today, September 3, 2024. The model is limited to 50 copies. Each copy bears the limitation number X of 50 on the solid base.

The Dial

Dial completely covered with C3 luminous material, black minute track and numbers for optimal contrast day and night. All hands painted black. Matt black inner rehaut with white minute track and printed minute numbers.

The Movement

Another special feature of this model is that a Valjoux 7750 works in the HS108, just like the vintage model 20.50.05L.

Guinand receives this movement from Switzerland, which is equipped with a Glucydur balance. At Guinand, each of these movements is once again adjusted in 5 positions, before the final inspection of the watch concludes with a multi-day running test.

The Housing

The protected pushers and a screwed crown with 3-way sealing system and side protection enable a reliable pressure resistance of 20 bar. The anthracite-black hard-material coated stainless-steel pilot's bezel can be rotated in minute increments in both directions, and thus enables short-term stops of up to 60 minutes without starting the chronograph.

Pushers, crown and back with FKM-R sealing system. For the dial side we have installed a slightly curved glass made of sapphire with an anti-reflective coating on the inside and for the watch back we use a massive, polished stainless steel back.

The Case Back

Like the original, the HS108 has a solid case back made of polished stainless steel. The base is engraved with a tribute to Helmut Sinn and the individual limited edition number "X of 50".

The housing technology

Protected pushers and a screwed crown with 3-way sealing system and side protection enable a reliable pressure resistance of 20 bar. FKM-R sealing system for crown, pusher and base. The Pilot's bezel made of stainless steel, anthracite-black hard-coated (DLC) and beared in the case on 3 encapsulated ball detent systems.

Size comparison

Based on the size values, it is not easy to decide whether the watch fits the wrist, or whether it is too big or too small. To make your decision easier, we have mounted the watch on three different wrist widths that correspond to the usual sizes.

How to determine the correct strap length?

Please note that the wrists shown can only give you an approximate impression of the watch on your wrist, as the shape of the wrist is different for everyone, even if they have the same circumference.

HS108 on a wrist
Medium size wrist (approx. 19 cm / 7.48 inch C)
HS108 on the wrist
Smaller wrist (approx. 17 cm / 6.7 inch C)
HS108 on the wrist

The Strap

Vintage Lume

Bracelet Metal Strap S60

We have a black vintage leather strap with quick-change spring bars made in Germany especially for this watch. A special feature is the natural white stitching made from thread that glows green in the dark. Black cowhide leather, available with pin or folding clasp.
