The golden age of flight
Pilot Officer
Semi-gloss black Tri-Compax dial, easy to read chronograph counters and the design of our 60s pilot-classic Flying Officer.
The history
Chronographs for "science and technology", ie for people with high demands on functionality and reliability, is what we have been manufacturing at Guinand for more than half a century. While in the sixties the tricompax stopcounter arrangement was state-of-the-art, this dial design has become rare today. A tricompax dial is the arrangement of the totalizers at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. This symmetrical arrangement is considered by watch connoisseurs as aesthetically balanced and was first presented in the 60ies of the last century.
In Guinand's model 155, this division of the totalisers in the 1960iess came onto the market in a modern form. We have revived this chronograph with the Guinand Model Pilot Officer.
The watch dial is based on our "Flying Officer" model, creating a timeless classic that combines the functional slightly shiny black dial with the aesthetically balanced tricompax arrangement.
The Watch
Guinand has been producing sporty chronographs for pilots and navigation officers since the 1960ies. The Guinand Flying Officer is an eloquent testimony to this era and a coveted collectors’ item for years.
With the Pilot Officer, we are picking up on this tradition - a sporty, elegant and easy to read watch, well equipped for office work, leisure or opera visit.
.
The Dial
A slightly shiny black dial and the classic tricompax division of the stop totalizers not only give this watch elegance, but also good readability - both day and night, because the hourly numbers are covered with the highest luminous color "SuperLuminova Grade X1".
The Movement
The construction of the SW510 is based on the VJ7750 which has been developed in the 70s of the last century and continuously improved. It is arguably the most robust power source for a mechanical chronograph. The SW510 allows the realization of chronographs with Bicompax- and Tricompax dial.
Guinand receives this watch movement produced in Switzerland in a finely finished version with a Glucydur balance. At Guinand, each of these movements is once again adjusted in 5 positions, before the final inspection of the watch concludes with a multi-day running test.
* with the use of SW510A the design of the rotor slightly changed
The Housing
The housing of the Pilot Officer is made of three parts, the stainless steel middle part, the screwed top part and the screwed case bottom ring. For the dial-side cover glass, we use a slightly curved and anti-reflective sapphire crystal, while the sapphire crystal on the bottom is flat for optimum wearing comfort.
The Strap
Leatherstrap Cordovan
Elegant leather strap made of noble black cordovan leather with a shiny finish
